Second Grade:  Kelea Buchanan

Mrs. Buchanan holds a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education from the University of Georgia and a Master of Education from Columbus State University, Columbus, Georgia.  Kelea was a Reading Education Instructor at Columbus State University before moving to South Carolina.  She previously taught first grade for a combined ten years in Oklahoma and Georgia.  She and her husband, Dr. Scott Buchanan, Associate Professor of Political Science at the Citadel, are homeschooling parents of two daughters who are also students at Veritas.  The Buchanans are members of Scots Kirk ARP Church in Summerville.

Sixth Grade:  April Moffatt

Mrs. Moffatt studied English and political science at Boise State University.  She and her husband, John, homeschool their four children, all of whom attend Veritas. April has been a wonderful addition to the faculty, bringing great enthusiasm as a teacher.  She has overseen the incorporation of IEW writing principles throughout the Veritas curriculum.  The Moffat family attends Sovereign Grace Church of Summerville.

Rev. Wilson earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Georgia Southern University.  He holds a Master of Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary with an emphasis on Old Testament and Semitic Languages and has completed doctoral studies at Reformed Theological Seminary.  He taught high school at Mount Vernon Christian Academy, Atlanta, Georgia, for eight years and served as Assistant Headmaster.  Alan was Pastor of Education and Teaching Ministries at East Cooper Baptist Church twelve years and served as Senior Pastor of Sullivan’s Island Baptist Church six years before starting Veritas, SC.  He and his wife, Julie, were founding board members for Palmetto Christian Academy in Mount Pleasant.  He also served as interim Headmaster at PCA two years.  He was Adjunct Professor of Freshman Seminar and Learning Strategies at the College of Charleston eight years.   Alan and Julie homeschooled their children several years in the early days of the homeschool movement.  They have four children and eight grandchildren (all homeschooled) and are members of East Cooper Baptist Church.

Zoology 1 and Biology: Jim Koenig

Mr. Koenig received his Bachelor of Science in Biology and education certificate from the College of Charleston. Jim is Owner of King Fish Environmental (www.kingfishenvironmental.com). His love of the outdoors began as he spent his childhood fishing, hunting, hiking, and exploring the Pacific Northwest. Jim's passion for the outdoors and his gift of teaching have enabled him to impact many people from all walks of life. He spent several years developing and leading the Nature Program for Kiawah Island Resort. Most recently he spent thirteen years as Director of the Barrier Island Environmental Education Center on Seabrook Island. While there he developed classes for all age levels and has taught hundreds of school children and college, postgraduate, and adult groups about the outdoors. His love of nature and wealth of knowledge, combined with a true gift of teaching, makes time in the outdoors spent with Jim an amazing experience. Jim and his wife, Janet, homeschool their two daughters who also are students at Veritas. The Koenig family attends Seacoast Church.
