Meet our Teachers
Every week our teachers create opportunities for academic excellence and spiritual growth by establishing engaging environments where students feel safe, confident, and are inspired to learn. We have amazing instructors who have an abiding faith in Christ, are knowledgeable in their discipline, communicate effectively and deeply care for their students. They are dedicated to assisting parents in achieving excellence in homeschooling and helping students exceed their every expectation.
Julie Wilson
Kindergarten
Mrs. Julie Wilson has been teaching at Veritas since 2012 and is a co-owner of Veritas Classical Schools, SC. She teaches kindergarten at both campus locations and loves to watch “the light come on” in these little minds as they blossom through the year! Julie earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Georgia Southern University. She is an experienced homeschool mother, founding board member for Palmetto Christian Academy and previously taught pre-first enrichment class at PCA and was instrumental in developing the lower school curriculum. Also, for 12 years she worked at Christian World Adoption and was involved in educating and orienting new parents. Julie is married to Alan, mother to four girls and grandmother to fourteen treasures! The Wilsons are members at East Cooper Baptist Church.
Samantha Reed
First Grade
Mrs. Samantha Reed began teaching first grade at the West Ashley Campus in 2021. Having had the benefit of a home school education, Samantha was eager to give her children the same advantage and has done so since 2015. Samantha has studied elementary education at the College of Charleston, has received her Piano Pedagogy in piano, theory, and performance, and is an active member of the South Carolina Music Teachers Association. Samantha has operated her Summerville piano studio, Charleston School of Music, for over two decades. She has taught for Bethany CDC as a music teacher and director of programs, and other local homeschool co-ops. Samantha and her husband, Shannon, have three children, two of whom are school-age and attend Veritas West Ashley, with their younger brother soon to follow! The Reed family attends Summerville Baptist Church.
Elisabeth Hanrion
First Grade
Mrs. Elisabeth Hanrion began teaching at Veritas in 2021 and teaches 1st grade at the Mt. Pleasant campus. Elisabeth earned a Bachelor of Arts from Columbia International University. Elisabeth has 5 girls—Abigail, Lily, Arielle, Susanna, and Cora—and has homeschooled them for the past 14 years. One of her greatest joys is reading aloud to her children and entering into the wonder of story with them. Elisabeth and her girls attend LifePark Church in Mt. Pleasant.
Kristi Combs
Second Grade
Mrs. Kristi Combs began teaching for Veritas in 2018 and teaches second grade at both campus locations. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Emporia State University. Kristi has 21 years of homeschooling experience, in addition to many years teaching in public, private and homeschool enrichment settings. She is married to Fran and has three grown children and three grandchildren. They attend Crosstowne Christian Church in West Ashley.
Sharon Gravely
Third Grade
Mrs. Sharon Gravely began teaching for Veritas in 2016 and teaches third grade at the Mt. Pleasant Campus. She attended Minnesota University and has homeschooled her four sons, two of whom are now adults. She is married to Randolph and their two youngest boys attend Veritas. The Gravely family worships at East Cooper Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant.
Jenni Cunningham
Fourth Grade
Mrs. Jenni Cunningham began teaching at Veritas in 2012 and teaches fourth grade at the Mt. Pleasant Campus. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Bob Jones University. Previously, Jenni taught third grade for six years at Palmetto Christian Academy. She is married to Zach and they have three children. Their family attends King's Cross Church.
Laura Herndon
Fourth Grade
Mrs. Laura Herndon has taught fourth grade at the West Ashley Campus since 2018. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from the College of Charleston. Previously, Laura has taught at a public elementary school and James Island Christian School. She is married to Paul and they have three children, two of whom attend Veritas West Ashley. The Herndon family worships at James Island Christian Church.
Amanda Reinhardt
Fifth Grade & Science
Mrs. Amanda Reinhardt began teaching at Veritas in 2020. She currently teaches fifth grade as well as General Science at the West Ashley Campus. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the Medical College of Georgia. Amanda has eight years of homeschool experience. She and her husband, Brian, have four children who all attend Veritas in West Ashley. The Reinhardt family worships at Citadel Square Baptist Church in downtown Charleston.
Jacqui Tabor
Fifth Grade & Spanish
Mrs. Jacqui Tabor began teaching at Veritas in 2013. She currently teaches fifth grade, Spanish 7th & 8th and Spanish 1 at the Mt. Pleasant Campus. Jacqui holds a Bachelor of Arts in Foreign Languages from the University of Southern Mississippi, and a Master in Business Administration with an emphasis in Human Resources from Louisiana State University. Previously, Jacqui worked as an independent contractor for Cengage Learning Publishing in the discipline of World Languages, which includes working with Spanish, Italian, German and French collegiate texts. She has served as an instructor for American Red Cross Lifeguard training. Mrs. Tabor has also contributed to ancillary materials for multiple online language learning programs with Cengage Learning. Jacqui is married to Andrew and together they have two children whom attend Veritas. They are members at Christ Church Anglican in Mt. Pleasant.
Jen Meara
Sixth Grade
Mrs. Jen Meara began teaching at Veritas in 2021. She teaches sixth-grade humanities at West Ashley and the Mount Pleasant campus. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Arts and a Master of Arts in Interpretative Speech. Mrs. Meara has taught for ten years, including college courses at USC Upstate and North Greenville University and courses for grades 5-12. She is married to Tom Meara and has three children. The Mearas are members of the Church at LifePark.
Ashley Grooms
Seventh & Eighth Grade
Mrs. Ashley Grooms taught at Veritas in 2012 and then returned in 2016. She currently teaches 7th & 8th grade English Literature at both campus locations. Ashley earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Religion from Wake Forest University, and a Master of Arts in English Language and Literature from the University of South Carolina. Mrs. Grooms has also worked as a Reading Specialist at Palmetto Christian Academy and an English 101 instructor at the University of South Carolina. She is married to Thomas, who works at Blackbaud, and together they have four children. The Grooms family worships at East Cooper Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant where Thomas serves as an Elder.
Mark Timmons
Seventh & Eighth Grade
Rev. Mark Timmons began teaching at Veritas in 2015 and teaches 7th & 8th grade Bible, History and Logic at the West Ashley Campus. Mark earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the College of Charleston and a Master of Divinity from Southern Seminary. Previously, Mark worked at a classical, Christian school in Kentucky for three years. He and his wife, Libbie, have five children, three of whom attend Veritas West Ashley. They are members at Friendship Baptist Church in Park Circle, where Mark serves as one of the pastors.
Stephanie Farris
Seventh & Eighth Grade & Science
Mrs. Stephanie Farris began teaching at Veritas in 2021. She teaches 7th-8th Bible, History, Logic, and Biology at the Mt. Pleasant campus. Stephanie earned a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism/ Communications from the University of Georgia. Stephanie and her husband Tad have been married for 27 years. They met and served on Cru staff for 25 years. They have five children who have been homeschooled for the past 19 years. They attend East Cooper Baptist Church. Stephanie has taught Apologia science for 12 years. She currently homeschools her children and teaches ESL online.
Alan Wilson
High School
Rev. Alan Wilson has taught at Veritas since it began in 2007. Alan is co-owner and Director of Academics of Veritas Classical Schools, SC. Currently, he teaches high school History, Bible, and Rhetoric at both campus locations. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Georgia Southern University. Alan also holds a Master of Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary and has done doctoral work at Reformed Theological Seminary. Previously, he taught high school at Mount Vernon Christian Academy (Atlanta, Georgia) for eight years while serving as Assistant Headmaster. Alan was Pastor of Education and Teaching Ministry at East Cooper Baptist Church twelve years and served as Senior Pastor of Sullivan’s Island Baptist Church six years before starting Veritas. He and his wife, Julie, were founding board members for Palmetto Christian Academy in Mount Pleasant, where he also served as interim Headmaster two years. Alan was Adjunct Professor of Freshman Seminar and Learning Strategies at the College of Charleston eight years and taught Old Testament at Charleston Southern University three years. Alan and Julie homeschooled their children several years in the early days of the homeschool movement. They have four children and twelve grandchildren (all of whom are homeschooled). The Wilsons are members of East Cooper Baptist Church.
Christy Meadows
Science
Mrs. Christy Meadows began teaching at Veritas in 2021 and teaches Physical Science at both campus locations. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Christian Education and Sports Management from Erskine College, and a Master of Arts in Practical Ministry from Erskine Theological Seminary. Christy has seven years of homeschool experience. She and her husband, Aaron, have three children, two of whom attend Veritas West Ashley. The Meadows worship at Summerall Chapel at The Citadel in downtown Charleston as her husband serves as the Chaplain to the Corps of Cadets.
Brianne Gallagher
Science
Dr. Brianne Gallagher began teaching at Veritas in 2021. She teaches elementary science and biology at the West Ashley Campus. She earned her Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Northwestern College of Chiropractic in Minnesota and her Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from Southwest Minnesota State University. Dr. Brianne has 16 years of clinical experience, specializing in pediatric & prenatal care, and nine years of homeschooling experience. She and her husband John have four children (Ellie, John Michael, Avery, and Luke) who have attend Veritas at the West Ashley campus since 2016. The Gallagher family attends NewSpring Church in North Charleston.
Kristi Bowers
Science
Mrs. Kristi Bowers started teaching at Veritas in 2021 and teaches General Science on the Mount Pleasant campus. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and Psychology from Clemson University. Kristi and her husband Tyler have four children – Caleb, Anna Catherine, Mason, and Abram. Her children have been homeschooled for the past 13 years. All four children attend Veritas in Mount Pleasant and their oldest will graduate from Veritas High School this Spring.

Emily Parrish
Math
Mrs. Emily Parrish joined the Veritas faculty in 2015 and teaches Saxon 1, Saxon 2, and Saxon 3 at the Mt. Pleasant Campus along with Saxon 2 and Saxon 3 at the West Ashley Campus. She graduated from Winthrop University with a Bachelor of Arts in Vocal Performance. Emily and her husband, Justin, have two daughters. They are members at Two Rivers Presbyterian in Park Circle, where Justin serves on staff as Director of Worship and Media.
Daniel Miklancic
Math
Daniel Miklancic teaches 7th-grade mathematics for Veritas at the Mount Pleasant campus location. He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering. After several tours around the world as an engineer officer in the United State Army, Daniel moved to the civilian sector. In 2017, he retired from a 30-year career in which he served in various information technology positions, most recently as a process systems engineer. He and his wife, Rebecca, homeschooled their two boys from birth through high school. Both boys have since graduated with engineering degrees from Clemson. For the past ten years, Daniel, as a personal ministry, has tutored interested high school students preparing for the SAT/ACT. The Miklancic family attends East Cooper Baptist Church where both Daniel and Rebecca have each served for nearly two decades in the ECBC Children's Ministry.
Amanda Kristowski
Math
Mrs. Amanda Kristowski began teaching at Veritas in 2021 and teaches Saxon 1, Saxon 6/5, and Saxon 7/6 at the Mount Pleasant campus. Amanda is passionate about helping students to love learning and to see God in all things as they learn. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from the University of South Florida. Amanda is married to Josh, and she has homeschooled their four children for 11 years. The Kristowski family worships at LifePark Church in Mount Pleasant.
Rebecca Taylor
Math
Mrs. Rebecca Taylor began teaching at Veritas in 2008 and teaches Pre Algebra and Algebra at the West Ashley Campus. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Animal Veterinary Science from Clemson University. She is married to Lee and has three children, who also attend Veritas West Ashely. The Taylor family worships at East Cooper Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant.
Evangeline Van Houten
Spanish
Mrs. Evangeline Van Houten joined the Veritas faulty in 2021 as the West Ashley Spanish Teacher. She teaches 7th/8th grade Spanish as well as Spanish I and II and has taught Spanish at the Middle School, High School, and College levels at Palmetto Christian Academy and at West Virginia University. Evangeline was homeschooled from birth until she left for college, and she is very excited to be a part of homeschooling again! After earning her BA in Foreign Languages at Frostburg State University, she served as a missionary in Spain before obtaining her MA in World Languages, with an emphasis on teaching, at West Virginia University. Mrs. Van Houten met her husband, Joey, at East Cooper Baptist Church, where he has worked and attended for years. They just started the adventure of parenting this summer after having Auggie in June.
